FORUM 2026 focuses on strengthening decentralized cooperation between Belgium and Romania through innovative, community-based approaches to health, wellbeing and active citizenship. Central to this edition is the Erasmus+ ACTION (Active Seniors in the Community) project, which demonstrates how local partnerships can empower older citizens, strengthen social participation and create healthier and more inclusive communities.
Building on the experiences of the ACTION project, alongside local healthcare initiatives and the ADAMS-HUB concept, the FORUM will explore how cross-border cooperation can address common challenges such as population ageing, workforce shortages, health inequalities and the digital transformation of care. Particular attention will be given to the role of active citizenship in health(care), community engagement and intergenerational solidarity.
In addition, FORUM 2026, based in the city of Zaventem, highlights the importance of shared cultural and local heritage as an added value for Belgian-Romanian cooperation. Heritage-based activities, including community storytelling, local history projects, intergenerational learning initiatives, cultural volunteering and the preservation of local traditions, can contribute to social cohesion, mental wellbeing and stronger community identities. These actions create meaningful opportunities for local groups from both countries to collaborate, exchange experiences and build sustainable people-to-people connections.
Through the presentation of project results, practical workshops and networking opportunities, FORUM 2026 aims to showcase successful practices, stimulate new partnerships and develop a strategic roadmap for future Belgian-Romanian collaboration. Participants will identify new joint actions linking health, active ageing and cultural heritage, exchange innovative community care models and co-create initiatives that strengthen resilient, inclusive and engaged communities across both countries.
We look forward to seeing you in October!
